With the use of thermography, we can determine the temperature differences of any asset without via direct contact with it through a radiometric thermal sensor mounted on our industrial drones that detect its thermal radiation (infrared) emitted in the form of electromagnetic waves.
The radiometric thermal sensors we use allow us to measure the exact temperature value of each point (pixel) in the image of the element of interest. Having a larger number of pixels allows us to have more detail, since radiometric thermal sensors are able to reveal the absolute temperature for each pixel detected.
The use of this specific technology applied to industrial drones for thermographic attentions allows us to obtain accurate and much more reliable data than any other means being able, therefore, to carry out detailed inspections and detect any problems at the thermal level that affect a variety of sectors, such as thermography on industrial plants, photovoltaic, wind power, etc.
Using HD and UHD digital sensors combined with high-resolution radiometric thermal sensors we can document and intervene quickly with respect to possible anomalies involving thermal radiation emitted by various assets.

THE STAGES OF THE THERMOGRAPHIC SURVEY
To determine the temperature of assets we follow three distinctly different steps.
The first is the thermographic survey, which is the observation and subsequent acquisition of the thermal information of interest.
The second is the analysis carried out using special software, which consists of processing the information and data acquired in flight that allow us to make the relevant temperature measurements.
Finally, the third phase, which ends with a Thermographic Report prepared by one of our UNI EN ISO 9712 Level II Thermographic Operators containing the analysis carried out in which all the anomalies found will be noted in detail. In addition, it will be possible to view what was detected directly in the Cloud with an exportable, georeferenced and interactive dataset.
Following the detection we are able to return:
- georeferenced radiometric thermograms;
- thermographic shots;
- thermographic photoplane;
- traditional orthophotoplane;
- thermographic three-dimensional digital model;
- traditional three-dimensional digital model.

Structural thermography in construction
With non-invasive infrared multispectral monitoring and analysis carried out by the sensors with which the drone is equipped, we can examine the temperature of a body by taking repeated measurements over time in a precise manner (on the order of hundredths of a degree) in a range from -20°C to 1500°C. Thermographic analysis is very useful since it allows us to detect any defective elements even before the problem becomes critical allowing us to take action with targeted preventive interventions so that maintenance costs are reduced.
The main advantages in the construction industry that result from drone thermographic analysis involve the detection of thermal bridges and mold, defects in the installation of windows and doors rather than in the attachment points of coatings, rising damp in walls and much more. In this sense, thermography also allows for significant energy savings.
Industrial thermography on electrical and chemical plants
In the industrial sector, on the other hand, thermographic surveying with a drone is one of the most popular nondestructive investigation techniques for carrying out most inspections. In fact, with regard to the analysis of electrical, chemical and mechanical systems, the measurement and monitoring of temperature provides important data in relation to the proper functioning or otherwise, as well as the state of wear and tear of various components.
Thermography for photovoltaic systems
The use for photovoltaic systems of our industrial drones equipped with radiometric thermal imaging cameras represents a safe and extremely rapid solution to identify any hot spots, i.e. the abnormal overheating of one or more cells inside the photovoltaic module caused by the presence of solid particles such as dust or sand, mechanical damage or intrinsic problems resulting in a significant reduction in the electrical performance of the system. Thanks to the thermographic analysis, therefore, we are able to verify the effectiveness of the panels without in any way altering their balance, in order to provide targeted interventions to solve the problem.
Thermography for wind farms
Just as for photovoltaic systems, thermographic surveying with a drone is extremely advantageous for wind fields. In fact, from the detailed and very precise thermal images, anomalies on the composites are clearly visible due to the temperature differences that are shown. With thermographic analysis, therefore, it is possible to verify the effectiveness and functioning of the components and take early action on the maintenance work to be done.
The application of thermographic surveys can find wide use for surveying, monitoring, inspection and verification operations in the following areas:
- building thermography (including for the detection of energy leaks, thermal bridges and rising damp in walls, which can be readily detected with thermography)
- inspections of industrial warehouses and facilities
- inspections of chemical and electrical plants (e.g., in case of overheating).
